9 tips that help you slay your make-up all day long

If you have an important meeting, wedding or an event where you need to look your best all day long, this is a post for you. Here are 9 ways to ensure that your make up is locked into place so you can go about your day knowing you look great (day to night)!

1. Clean and even canvas
For a smooth skin surface, you should exfoliate your face. The smoother skin, the easier and more even your make up can be applied.

2. Moisturize that skin
Moisturizer fit for your skin type is a must. Hydration is really important because it makes your skin looking healthy and plumped. Apply your favorite one all over your face and neck and allow it to sit for a few minutes before applying makeup.

3. Prime
Primers are available in cream, gel, spray and powder formulas. While moisturizer softens the skin, primer prepares skin for your favorite bb cream or a foundation, giving it something to hold onto so it lasts throughout the day. It can also help to smooth any fine lines, wrinkles or large pores.
Also, don’t forget about that eyeshadow primer! This primer keeps eye makeup looking fresh and vibrant all day. It saves eyeshadows from fading or creasing, while allowing it to stay colour-true.

4. Long wearing make up
If you have a big event and you need to look amazing all day long, there are products that are LONG WEARING. They are called like that for a good reason – special made formulas that will not smudge or budge. From foundation, gel liner, eyeshadows, …plenty to choose from.

5. Layering – less Is more!
I love using a beauty blender to apply light layers to create a smooth complexion. If you want to look natural and not to be able to notice that you are wearing a lot of make up, building up your makeup products in light layers is the way to go. Also, it will make it last longer and not cakey instead of when applying one heavy layer.

6. Powder – to seal your make up, use powder.
There are many types of powders out there these days – in color, transparent, loose,… Using powder will help smooth out your makeup and remove excess oil.

7. Setting spray
To keep that matte finish or freshly applied makeup, you should try out a setting spray. It is usually a fine mist that you spray on your face after all of the makeup has been applied. It should be the lightweight formula that will set your make-up for all day wear.

8. Blot
To fight that greasy look during the day, you can use some type of blotting paper. Those sheets absorb excess oils and help to keep you shine-free!

9. Do not touch!
You probably don’t even realize what you are doing, but this habit can only help you ruin your make up masterpiece. Also, touching your face throughout the day can cause your carefully applied makeup to became patchy and migrate all over your face. Not to mention all of those germs on your hands, yuck!

I hope that this post was helpful you guys. Until next one…

Mayling, I have loved L’Oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer and Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Light. They are both great for my normal/combination skin. Ones that I haven’t tired yet, but read only great reviews are Benefit PoreFessional Face primer and Too Faced Hangover Rx Replenishing Face Primer.

Thank you. I love an oldie but a goodie: MAC Fix +. Another that I find great is Caudalie Beauty Elixir (which isn’t a classic make-up setting spray, but more like a hybrid between this and skincare product). Also, on my wishlist I have Urban Decay ALL NIGHTER Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray as it has great reviews. I hope this helps 🙂

This is so helpful I really want to get some blotting paper because I’m oily around my t-zone but I don’t know which brand to try.

I think all blotting sheets are mostly ok…I use ones I got from (gift with purchase). I have heard that MAC blot film and Shiseido blotting sheets are great too…
