So, today I decided to write about a product that is not that common in western skincare cosmetic – overnight mask or a sleeping pack.
What is an overnight mask or a sleeping pack?
It is a cream mask that you put on your face in the final stage of your night skincare routine. Think of it as a moisturizer. Sleeping packs provide hydration and effective skin repair and they lock in all the ingredients you put on your face in the previous steps in your skincare routine. You apply a proper amount of the product and spread. It does its magic overnight and you wash it off in the morning. That’s it!
Sleeping packs are very popular in asian cosmetic and this trend comes (ofcourse) from Korea.
COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask
Description and claims:
‘Enriched with more than 65% of rice extract, this mask provides intensive nourishment with deep moisture to help the skin clearer and softer.’
It also claims that it is moisturizing, whitening and nourishing.
This sleeping pack can be used as:
- A sleeping pack – apply as a last step of your nighttime skincare regimen and wash off when you wake up
- A wash off mask – apply a generous amount and leave for 15 minutes and then rinse off
- A cream – use it at the end of the basic skin care. If you use it in the morning, you can continue with your normal makeup routine.
It comes in a white box that mimics the jar inside. The jar is plastic, white with a black lid and blue print with the name of the product. You get 50 gr. of product and the price varies from 12-16 $. I bought mine at www.jolse.com.
Texture and performance:
It is a white cream with a rich texture that glides on easily and feels great on the face. I was afraid that it will be heavy and greasy on the face, but it feels really nice and nourishing. It takes a bit for it to sink into the skin, but it doesn’t really dry down all the way. It leaves a thin layer on the skin, but it doesn’t feel sticky. Just very soothing.
This overnight mask is suited for normal, dry, dehydrated and aging skin.
The main ingredient and the star of the show is a rice extract which is traditionally used to brighten up the skin and to make it soft.
There is also niacinamide, which is not only beneficial for more mature skin (as it is known for), but it is also an effective treatment for acne and rosacea and one that’s well tolerated.
Full list ingredients:
Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Betaine, Niacinamide, Dimethicone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) oil, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) Kernel Oil, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Arginine, Carbomer, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum.
It doesn’t have any particular scent which is always a plus, especially for the sensitive skin.
Let me tell you…this is my first this type of product. And I like it a lot!
It leaves skin on my face hydrated and so soft and I love that feeling in the morning. I didn’t notice any particular whitening performance, but it may be noticed over a longer period of time. I think that this is a great product that it will be especially comforting in the autumn/winter time.
As this is my first sleeping pack and I enjoy this type of product, I’m already looking out for another 🙂 Any recommendations?
